Metonymy 09 - Selected works and response from Panel

OK, here it is - congratulations to everyone, not only those who made it in, but to everyone who took part and made work!

Panel for Metonymy 09

Paula Green - poet
Dylan Horrocks - visual artist
Riemke Ensing – poet – unfortunately due to family reasons Riemke was not able to attend.
Philip Patston – poet and performer
Peter Gilderdale - graphic designer, calligrapher and head of Graphic Design department AUT

The Panel were asked to evaluate work based on its collaborative nature; quality and innovation. They commented on the overall high quality of the work and were impressed at the depth of ideas. Selection was based not only on the above guidelines but whether the work showed real integration of writing with visual art, eg not just a poem put with a picture but a creation of an entirely new piece of work which fused the two.

Comments about Metonymy from two of the Panel:
“The most successful collaborations demonstrate the electric, surprising and sometimes challenging possibilities when artists and writers come together, as this exhibition demonstrates. Perhaps there needs to be a new term to acknowledge works that are neither simply artwork or prose or poetry but something glorious and fertile that emerges from the movement between.” - Paula Green

“Metonymy takes the idea of collaboration and runs with it. It puts people from different parts of the art spectrum together and lets the creative sparks fly. Writers, artists and designers don’t give away their strengths in the process of collaboration. Instead the process at its best takes them all into areas that they would not inhabit on their own.” - Peter Gilderdale
